Federal Support continues for the Arts and Humanities

Times are tough all over, but the funding for both the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities have been approved at increased levels for the next budget cycle. A portion of this money comes back to us in Indiana through the Indiana Arts Commission administered grants and the Indiana Humanities Commission and their activities.

RELAY FOR LIFE

The guild has been asked to participate in the June 27th & 28th fund raiser. They are looking for artists that would be interested in character sketching. This same group of people is putting on a fashion show on Thursday, April 23. They would like for any artist to donate a painting. If you are interested, contact Paula Daugherty at 812-537-2692 or Joan Abdon at 812-537-3878.

The River Explorer (River Barge) will not travel in 2009 due to the economy. The entire company is shutting down so we will not paint in Lesko Park as we have in the past.

The blog is set up for the guild members to use. The information is located at the Guild studios under the bulletin board. This was also sent in an e-mail.

It has been approved by the board that the guild will soon purchase an overhead mirror for  workshops.

Southeastern Indiana Quilt Fest is coming up on April 3, 4 & 5. There will be an art show at this festival. Contact Ohio County Historical Society at 812-438-4915.

WELCOME!!

We may possibly be having a beer tasting in conjunction with the Great Crescent Brewery of Aurora on the last Saturday of the Spring Art Show (May 2). More information to follow.

Our Spring Art Show will begin on April 25th. Membership requirements mandate that we address some of the issues necessary to qualify for participation in the show. There have been some changes made, they are:

1) Keep dues current, they are due by June 1st ($35).

2) Create at least one new piece of artwork for this show. Members are also required to sit the show in order to participate.

3) Attend at least three meetings a year. This is in the guild by-laws. This is to be enforced unless you have been excused by the board for a reason, such as illness or work related absence.

4) The Spring Show will have a $15 entry fee.

You may enter up to six pieces of art in the Spring Show and two in the Educational Exhibit. Whether the original artwork should fall into the educational category will be up to the discretion and integrity of the individual artist.
